Biography

Paul Talbot-Greaves is a professional landscape painter and writer from the North of England. He works mainly in watercolour but also uses acrylics. Among his many accolades he was elected as a companion of the International Guild of Artists in 1996 and as an Associate of the British Watercolour Society in 1998. He was made a Professional Associate of the Society for All Artists in 1997 and in 2002 was elected as President of the Halifax Art Society. In 2003 he was made an advisory panellist of the SAA and Artists and Illustrators magazine. He has appeared on British National Television in 1998 both as a regional winner and a national finalist on Channel Four's Watercolour Challenge programme.

Paul has written many articles for publications including The Artist magazine, Leisure Painter, Artists and Illustrators Magazine, Paint, Pratique des Arts (France), The Dalesman, Cumbria, and Choice Magazine. He has also produced four teaching art DVDs on the subject of watercolour painting which are regularly shown on Sky TV. He has written four books on the subject of watercolour painting - 'Watercolour for starters' is published by David and Charles (2004), ‘30 Minute Landscapes' published by Walter Foster, USA (2008), '30 Minute Landscapes in Watercolour' published by Harper Collins (2009) and ‘Landscapes in Watercolour' published by Crowood Press (2009). Some of his work is also published in ‘Watercolour layer-by-layer' (Walter Foster, USA). Paul has been teaching and lecturing on the subject of watercolour painting for the last thirteen years. His demonstrations and workshops are extremely popular and are represented by St Cuthberts Mill.

Awards

Paul was elected as a companion of the International Guild of Artists in 1996 and as an Associate of the British Watercolour Society in 1998. He was made a Professional Associate of the Society for All Artists in 1997 and in 2002 was elected as President of the Halifax Art Society. In 2003 he was made an advisory panellist of the SAA. He has appeared on British National Television in 1998 both as a regional winner and a national finalist on Channel Four's Watercolour Challenge programme and some of his work has also been shown on the BBC Weather Show.
He has produced two video’s - ‘Create Atmosphere & Mood in your painting’ and ‘Create Light and Shade in your painting’, which are available with accompanying booklets from the SAA.
Paul is a regular contributor and writer for Artists and Illustrators Magazine. He has also written extensively for Paint, Choice Magazine, Dalesman, Cumbria and Peak District Magazines. His new book titled 'Watercolour for starters' is due out in Autumn 2005, published by David and Charles.
