Tuition

I tutor courses, workshops and holidays. Primarily a landscape artist, I work in watercolour, pen and wash, oils, and sketching media such as pencil, ink, and charcoal.

I run my own workshops and holidays, as well as tutoring for commercial art centres such as West Norfolk Art Centre, Castle Rising.

I have a great love of teaching and enjoy encouraging other artists of all abilities. I firmly believe that in order to successfully paint the landscape, one needs a good connection to it. Consequently my boots have trodden the footpaths of Britain, Europe, Canada and India, always with a sketchbook in my rucksack!

Biography

I was born in London in 1948, and moved to West Norfolk in the early 1980's. There, inspired by the big skies and wide open spaces, I started to make paintings of the landscape. I had no formal schooling in art, but somehow, and rather late, the idea of painting in watercolour (and more recently in oils) crept up on me. I was very fortunate to get good adult tuition and I gradually acquired the techniques that enabled me to make my dream of painting become reality. These days the wheel has come full circle, and I spend a lot of time giving tuition to others, in the hope that art will be as life-changing for them as it has been for me. The inspiration for my paintings comes directly from the landscape, wherever I am. I spend a lot of time just walking and looking, and as the miles roll by I become ever more in awe of the beauty and power of the landscape. It was divinely created for us, and has been refined and honed by us over countless centuries. I have one or two solo exhibitions each year, and I usually have work in several East Anglian galleries. Many of my original paintings are available as prints or as greetings cards. I love to teach and to encourage others in their art. I tutor a variety of courses, workshops and holidays, both for Art Centres and ones that I organise myself. Full details of everything I do are on my tuition and events pages. Exhibitions

I generally hold one or two solo exhibitions per year in the West Norfolk area. This year I am also taking part in the annual Norfolk Open Studios scheme, so why not visit my studio!

Over the years I have exhibited with the Royal Watercolour Society, Laing Landscape Painting Competition, and many regional exhibitions such as the Eastern Open.
