Carole's workshops are aimed at people who want to 'loosen up' and be freer. Carole paints in such a way as to draw the viewer in, to let them decipher certain elements, and therefore, lots of detail need not be laboured over.... just a suggestion of what is there is often all that is needed, making the finished work more exciting, evocative and bold.

Students travel from all over the UK and abroad for her workshops which are becoming more and more popular. There is a host of B&Bs and hotels in and around the great city of Lichfield to stay, so please ask for details.

Please check the website www.carolebaker.com/workshops for availability or call Carole on 01543 676895 before sending your booking. The website is updated on a regular basis.

1-DAY WORKSHOPS IN WATERCOLOUR AND MIXED MEDIA

PAINTING WITHOUT A BRUSH!
1-day Tuesday 26 February
The aim of this workshop is to encourage you to break away from the conventional approach to painting and explore ?alternative? methods of picture-making. Drawing and painting with mountboard, rollering, spattering, incorporating collage - watercolours, acrylics or mixed media. A creative and liberating experience!
Includes tuition and refreshments each day. Cost: £40

INTERESTING FOREGROUNDS
IN MIXED MEDIA
1-day Wednesday 27 February
Very often tangled brambles, a busy hedgerow or a complicated foreground generally, can deter you from picking up your paint brush! This workshop concentrates on turning such subject matter into an interesting foreground, almost making it the focal point with lots of interest. Using watercolour, ink, pastel, texture and colour in a semi-abstract way.
Includes tuition and refreshments each day. Cost: £40

PAINTING LOOSE IN WATERCOLOUR + PASTEL/INK
1-day Friday 14 June
Create movement and energy in a painting by incorporating soft pastel...making a painting ?zing?, and using oil pastel as a resist to enhance textural qualities using the oiliness as a contrast to the fluidity of watercolour . ?Pen? and ink with watercolour is a quick and simple method by which detail can be suggested in a few lines. Mark making with waterproof Indian ink and/or acrylic inks with a ?pen? that is a sharpened twig, wooden peg, lollipop stick or piece of bamboo.
Includes tuition and refreshments each day. Cost: £40.

LANDSCAPE ABSTRACTIONS
1-day Monday 7 October
The landscape will be the framework which you will build on to move into abstraction. Some people paint abstracts entirely from their imaginations, but having something 'real' as the starting point gives a direction to start working in, to kickstart your imagination. Whether you are already working in landscape and want a little more edge to your work or are trying to find an approach to abstraction, this workshop should help you. Acrylic, mixed media or watercolour. Includes tuition and refreshments each day. Cost: £40

Biography

Carole Baker RBSA was born in 1965 in Lichfield, Staffordshire.

She works as a Professional Artist from her studio in Chase Terrace, Staffordshire. She attended Matthew Boulton College and later studied at Lichfield School of Art.

Elected Full Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in April 2008, she regularly exhibits there and in gallery shows, open exhibitions and art fairs throughout the UK. A selection of her work has been produced as limited edition prints and greeting cards that can be found widely in many galleries.

Carole's work has been published in International Artist magazine in a 10-day feature article (Feb/Mar 2012) and is due to be published again soon in the Master Painters of the World section.

A vision of uncompromising colour and beautiful landscapes, the scenes that Carole captures simply shimmer, awash with feeling providing an irresistible window to look through. Her lively and dynamic paintings are bold and eye-catching and colour is fast becoming her trademark. Her creations are ablaze with the kind of confidence that comes from nothing less than natural skill.

The travels for her art have taken Carole everywhere from New Zealand and Australia, to the Scilly Isles and Highlands of Scotland. Beginning with quick sketches, photographs and sporadic jottings of her general thoughts on a scene, she begins by building up a portfolio of ideas to work from. She gathers enough information to develop a series of paintings both in terms of detail and colour. These sketchbooks themselves are marvelous, veritable photo albums of her travels that she uses to draw inspiration for her art. She then works in acrylic, watercolour and mixed media to produce exciting, vibrant and bold works of art.

She sees the use of sketches and photographs taken on location as a starting point only... tending to paint the way she feels about the subject as opposed to copying literally, giving her the chance to put her personal stamp on the subject.
