I run workshops in my studio at Buxton for up to 6 students. I include lunch in full day workshops. A wide range of subjects is offered.
I can also run workshops to groups based in Derbyshire,Cheshire & Staffordshire areas.
Workshops are reasonably priced and include all materials. Beginners & Improvers are welcome. I teach the traditional gutta resist technique and always use iron fix silk paints for convenience. I also supply drawing templates for those lacking confidence!
I am happy to organise a workshop for your group in the above areas. Contact me for further information.
Details of 2011 workshops available soon on my website www.silkpainter.co.uk
I have been a professional silk painter for 16 years.
I am a member of the ‘Guild of Silk Painters' in the U.K. The Guild is a national body which aims to promote the art and craft of silk painting. I belong to the ‘Cheshire Guild of Silk Painters' which promotes the work of its members through local exhibitions. I am a member of ‘Peak District Artisans'- an organisation of quality artists & crafts people based in the Peak District and of ‘High Peak Artists' another regional art association.
I promote the art of silk painting in my area through workshops & exhibitions.
My style is mainly based on the 'resist' method of silk painting - this simply means creating a barrier or resist which blocks the fibres of the silk and contains the spread of the dye. I use clear, black and metallic resists these are known as guttas or outliners. Sometimes I use the resist to 'draw' my design onto the silk and sometimes I apply it as a decoration after painting.
My subject matter includes flowers, landscapes & buildings and I have introduced a series of paintings based on British seaside holidays featuring an oversized seagull - 'Big Bird'.
My original paintings, prints & cards are available in galleries and many retail outlets throughout the Peak District, also online through my website www.silkpainter.co.uk.
I exhibit all the year round at these galleries:
Gallery in the Gardens
Macclesfield Silk Museum
- Future Exhibitions:
- Wild & Wonderful
Flowers And Gardens, Landscape, Still Life, Wild Flowers
