Biography

Sandrine Maugy is French and has been living in England since 1994. She lives in Bitterne Park, Southampton, where she has a studio. From there, she paints and teaches arts and crafts
to children and adults.
A life long interest in gardening and a fascination for colour and light has led her to favour botanical subjects.
In December 2001, she was awarded a Certificate in Botanical
Illustration (with distinctions) by London Art College.
In March 2002, she was elected member of the Society of Floral Painters. She had her first exhibition with the society in Mottisfont Abbey (a National Trust property near Romsey) in June 2002. She was elected on the committee in November 2004.
In June 2002, she was commissioned by eminent plantsman Roy Lancaster to paint a rare honeysuckle growing in his garden.
This was the first one of many paintings depicting Roy’s
magnificent garden. In January 2004, the paintings were exhibited at the Royal Horticultural Society Hall in London, where Sandrine was awarded a Silver medal for the display.
Sandrine is currently working for the Tudor House Museum in Southampton, where she paints plants from their medieval knot garden.
She is often seen “borrowing” other people’s gardens to paint plants that she finds appealing.
