Biography

My initial training was in the form of an Advanced GNVQ in Art and Design. Whilst on the two year course I experienced a broad range of disciplines, which included surface pattern design, fashion, fine art, ceramics, graphics, three dimensional design and photography.

I started a BA (hons) Fine Art, painting and drawing degree at the University of Huddersfield in September 2000. Whilst there, I took part in two Joint Exhibition of students work. I graduated with an Honours Degree from the University in 2003.

In July 2005 I completed a PGCE in Secondary Art and Design at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Since 1998 and to the present, I have been involved in painting still- Life's and Flower's. The paintings have all been observed directly from life. The artwork is figurative and abstract in style. The images are very delicately and fluidly painted using a variety of media, which includes watercolour, oil, gouache and acrylic.

The Abstract Portraits I painted in 2003 were all about my family. The work comprises of a selection of images that originate from photographs, all of which are personal and familiar to myself. The images and processes of care and nurture are about the emotions associated with the picture, rather than the notion of an event, a place or a particular period.
I explored different methods of introducing patterns, repetition, optical illusions and jewel like qualities into my work. A highly significant part of this work was the colour schemes I employ. The range of dazzling, bold and intense shades that I have been importing bare little relation to the images I am portraying, other than love and celebration.
