Biography
Artist and poet Peter Swidrak lists amongst his career highlights the raising of the security grille on the first day of THE HEART of ART Gallery, to the sounds of Bohemian Rhapsody. “Is this the real life, is this just fantasy?”
For someone whose “official” art training ended when he was 12 years old it must have seemed like a fantasy to have his own gallery - showing exclusively his own works, but it was real life!
A little thing like lack of training didn't stop Peter from getting involved with all things artistic, from painting in oils - to drawing in coloured ink and designing covers for holiday brochures – to planning office interiors, all without the aid of computer technology. Not that Peter shuns technology, indeed some of his works have been compared to computer-generated images, but they were all done by hand, with a pen and a ruler and a huge amount of patience!
At the forefront and quite often ahead of the field, Peter has found his artwork imitated and appearing as greeting cards, calendars and company logos in the most unexpected places. Peter was painting big, bright, sky pictures, which are so fashionable at the moment, 20 years ago.
During the course of his career Peter has travelled extensively, collecting inspiration from Egypt, The USA and The Yorkshire Moors along the way.
Peter has created work for British Airways and a major UK travel agent amongst other commissions and his original work hangs in many private collections.
Recently Peter is in much demand as a speaker, subjects ranging from art in business, to communication skills and interestingly “how to be a failure”.
In addition to everything else Peter is very much involved in bringing art to schools and in the last 5 years has worked with over 7,000 primary school children as part of the PrimaryColours – Art in Schools initiative.
