Biography
Mary lives in the beautiful county of Derbyshire and has the Peak District and the Staffordshire moorlands to inspire her paintings.
She has worked as a tutor for many years in a wide variety of schools,colleges and community centres in and around Derbyshire and Staffordshire.She is now running her own workshops and art classes at the Melbourne Leisure Centre in South Derbyshire.

Style of work
Mary paints the landscape using atmospheric conditions to describe the shapes and forms emerging within the paintings. References to fog,mist or sunlight and shadows is a recurrent theme. Many of her paintings contain little figures which are seen as associated motifs and become part of the landscape.
Methodology
She works primarily in acrylics and more recently in watercolour. Some of the pieces incorporate mixed media such as inks or pastels as the painting progresses in order to keep the work lively and spontaneous. Using these application techniques gives her a structure to formulate her own interpretation of the subject matter.
