Biography
Malcolm Jarvis was born in East London and was educated at a minor public school. After leaving school he enrolled at South East Technical College and began to study architecture. These studies were interrupted by National Service in the Royal Air Force during which time he enrolled in Camborne School of Art in Cornwall and started a foundation course in painting. At the end of his National Service he continued to study at Camborne ultimately graduating with a BA (Hons). On returning to London he enrolled at St Martin's School of Art and obtained a National Diploma in Design (NDD).
He spent his business career in advertising agencies and pursued painting as hobby, working in oils throughout this time. After moving to Norwich and meeting and working with both the late Christopher Stones and John Blockley he was introduced to soft pastel as a full painting medium and the bulk of his work has since been produced in that medium. He became a full time professional artist and tutor in 1992.
He is a member of the Pastel Guild of Europe, an Associate of the Pastel Society of America and a Professional Associate of the SAA.
