Visual Art History
IntroductionThere are three strands to the artistic work produced by Liz. Quick line drawings, oil paintings and the larger works of set design. Liz has worked in Scotland where had her own small gallery from 1976 to 1982. She was a member of the Aberdeen Artist Association. Many of her works are in private collections both here and abroad. She has moved from Old Trafford where she displayed work at the Vernon Mill Gallery in Stockport. She has drawn inspiration from frequent visit to North Wales.
Liz has a keen interest in theatre. She was commissioned by the company at the Aberdeen Art Centre to design and produce their sets, this resulted in Liz gaining a place on the Actors Equity Designers register.
Liz designed the set for the production of When the Wind Blows at the Edinburgh Fringe 2005.

Sketches. Line and wash drawings done quickly to catch the moment. People with no faces but the body movement says it all. They reflect the images of the day be it the beach at Llandudno or the market in Oldham, it is the people going about ordinary activities who fascinate.
Paintings in Oil using a palette knife so that the pictures have a relief. With an interest in the forms and colours of buildings, particularly those that are not in good repair, her work has frequently become the only record of past urban landscape. Rural landscapes and foreground plants are given life and depth with the thickness of the paint. Liz also paints with brushes.
Set Design Small scale touring where the set could be packed into a van and set up quickly at each new school hall or community centre. The Plumber of Bath The Friends of Matty's OakPolly and the Penguin in the Precinct Phyllis, The Frog and the FleaSnow White and Rose Red.
Theatre in the Round Dinner Theatre and Murder Mystery productions touring to hotel function rooms where the performance took place in the middle of the room and was more reliant on props than backdrops.
