Biography
I use a variety of mediums to capture the light, textures and atmosphere of the wilderness areas of land and sea. The sea is an important feature of my work as I sail with my husband. We have sailed from the Med to Britain and now explore the West Coast of Scotland on our Gaff Cutter, Holly. Our journeys have resulted in many paintings: small images of lighthouses, islands, cottages beside the shore and the turbulance of wind wipping up the waves. I hope this work captures the various moods of this exciting environment. Currently I have been exploring the use of colour and painting more from the imagination, drawing on my visual memory of landscape motifs. The colours and textures of undergrowth and uncultuvated land and scrub inspire studies of flowers and seedheads. I use collage and layers of textured papers to achieve depth of field and provide hidden surprises on the picture plain. Recently I have also painted still life taking inspiration from my garden and everyday items such as favourite jugs and pieces of china. For part of the year I live on the Cowal Peninsular on the West Coast of Scotland where I have recently aquired a studio which I hope will mean many more paintings of this very beautiful place. I have studied painting and drawing with the Open College of the Arts, and continue my studies by attending workshops and courses at The Leith Scool of Art in Edinburgh and elsewhere. I am a full member of the Scottish Artists Union. Greeting cards and limited edition prints of a selection of my paintings are available on request.
