Biography
Lee Creswell is an experienced silk painter and batik artist whose hand-painted wall hangings, paintings and scarves have been exhibited at home and abroad. Her aim is to explore the versatility of batik by creating works on different materials, with subjects ranging from botanical, seascape and marine life.

During her 27 month stay in Washington DC, The Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Library honoured her by holding a month-long Exhibition of her ‘Silk Creations’. Some of her silk paintings were selected for exhibition in the District Courthouse, Maryland, USA. She is a freelance tutor/demonstrator/lecturer on batik, shibori and silk painting and hold classes in UK and USA, have lectured in the Textile Museum and other art centres in the US. In 2007 she was one of the invited speakers at the Kuala Lumpur International Batik Convention and has received another invitation to speak at the next Convention in December 2009. She was a guest speaker at The 1958 Golden Anniversary Reunion in Malacca, Malaysia.

Two pairs of oriental doorway curtains were exhibited in the 1st International Silk Painting Congress in Fairfax, Virginia, USA. In the last couple of years, two of her works were amongst those on The UK Batik Guild 20th Anniversary Touring Exhibition. Several of her paintings are displayed in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge (UK) and two batik silk pieces were included in “Batik for Artists & Quilters” book. She was also invited to contribute a short article for the UK Batik Guild’s Book: ‘Batik Transitions: From Classic to Contemporary’. Lee has not only written articles for a number of Journals but has also been interviewed for articles in Magazines and had Commissions from America, Germany, Japan and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, UK.

Assistant Secretary of World Batik Council, UK Representative of the American Silk Painters International (SPIN), Oversea Contributor of ‘MyBatik’ Journal, Malaysia, East Anglian Area Representative of the Batik Guild.
She was Chairman of the Batik Guild 20th Anniversary Committee from April 2005 to April 2006 and until April 2007 was the Secretary UK Batik Guild.

International Shibori Society, Surface Design Association USA, The Textile Museum (Washington DC), Smithsonian Institute (Washington DC), Cambridge Open Studios, UK Batik Guild, Guild of Silk Painters and registered with the Crafts Council, UK.
