I was born in 1955 in Burnley Lancashire and had a very happy but unremarkable childhood. When I left school I joined the Merchant Navy as a Engineer Cadet and over the next fourteen years travelled the world and became a qualified Chief Engineer. Marriage and children necesitated leaving the sea and so I then went to work for a Company manufacturing Polymer repair products. I am currently the Engineering Director of that same Company and have been lucky enough to continue to travel the world, albeit, this time in much shorter trips, throughout the 25 years I have been with them. I am a self taught artist and find the pastime incredibly relaxing. Unfortunately the pressures of the job make finding the time to paint very difficult so I never go anywhere without my trusty camera. No matter where I am if I see something that I think will make a possible subject I begin to click away. Most of my paintings are done in my studio in the evenings but occasionally I get outdoors at the weekends: although, once again, a quick sketch and a photograph are usually all I can manage in the time available. I have sold many of my paintnigs, mostly to aquaintences or work colleagues and I often think that I should sell and exhibit more but I stiil consider them my babies and hate to let them go! Now that I have taken the plunge so to speak I guess you will let me know if I have done the right thing or not!
