Tuition

I have been a Head of Art at a number of secondary schools. I have taught Drawing and Painting, Printmaking , Photography, 3D and Ceramics at GCSE level and A'level. I have been a team leader to art and craft tutors working in adult and community learning helping them develop and implement courses throughout Devon. I have also taught for many years in Art groups; both one off classes as well as 10 week courses.

I am a committed and enthusiastic teacher who gains great pleasure from seeing student interest; skill
and creativity grow under my care. I firmly believe that the developments of the observational and
motor skills are essential tools for all art and design. The development of an idea, visual awareness and
skill at recording, through a wide range of media are the necessary requirements for the production of
creative work. Giving students the knowledge of different techniques and approaches in a variety of
media. This I tend to do on a given theme that focuses the student’s learning whilst enhancing awareness and knowledge of art. With this grounding, students are then able to develop their own understanding of art and design.

Biography

Jon L Gordon
I am a painter who works in all sorts of media and enjoys the excitement that develops as paint creates shape and form as it is applied to the whatever the surface. Having been a large abstract painter prior to moving to Devon. Here the Landscape the colour and atmosphere is both beautiful and a challenge to the Painter. The rolling hills and valleys of North Devon, the colours, textures and shapes of both Dartmoor and Exmoor have inspired my senses and lead me to represent the beauty in what I see. My work has developed more traditionally but continues to dwell on the excitement of surface and texture. The flora and fauna on land farmed organically in Devon and the effect man has had on the landscape is of particular interest to me having farmed land in North Devon throughout the last ten years.
