Introducing: acclaimed Wildlife Artist Joan Beuche.
Stunning original wildlife portraiture from one of South Africa's best loved artists.
Born and still living in Johannesburg, South Africa, Joan has always been known for the rare quality of her talent as a highly individualistic artist.
Joan studied at art school and completed a course in commercial art before commencing work in a display studio, where she gained experience with a variety of media.
After her marriage and the birth of her first two children, she went on to college, majoring in art, and graduating with honours. Joan began painting full time, after the birth of her third child, for reproduction in the commercial market.
The artist covered a variety of subjects and styles including: portraits, landscape, still life, silkscreen design & acrylic.
Her talents developed to reflect her great love for the African bush and its wild life in the dual medium of pastel and watercolour.
It was her presentation of birds of prey and wild cats in this medium in the early '90s that originally caught people's attention and led to a coveted contract with a publishing company for the production of the acclaimed Prestige wildlife calendars.
In October 2003 Joan held her first national exhibition of work in the Ron Belling gallery in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. It was a tremendous success: Most of the paintings sold out and more work was commissioned.
In spite of the fact that she is quite prolific, less than a year later there was already a long waiting list for her work, which can still be seen in selected galleries in South Africa.
2nd & 3rd national exhibitions in PE, together with high profile exhibitions in the UK 2004 - 2006, have sealed her reputation as a popular and acclaimed international wildlife artist.
In the UK Joan has been honoured at both the National Exhibition of Wildlife Art [NEWA] and the Wildlife Art Society International [TWASI] annual awards, where she was 2005 ‘International Artist'.
Joan paints with a wonderful combination of realism and imagination
– form and personality co-exist in graceful tension in her work.
Over the years she has developed a highly perceptive & evocative interpretation of the African bush - in particular, the way she reflects the natural effect of light on colour and form is a trademark evident in all her works.
Her inate ability and interest stem from years of visiting, studying and painting wildlife - both in their fast diminishing natural habitats in the wild, and in the conservation programmes she has been active in supporting.
A world-renowned wildlife artist, today Joan’s originals and prints grace the walls of African safari lodges, as well as corporate boardrooms and private collections overseas. Furthermore, her calendars have brought immense pleasure to wildlife enthusiasts everywhere.
Her desire is to awaken an awareness and appreciation for the wild life of Africa.
