Tuition
I am an Artist who has taught Art for over 30 years to other exhibiting artists as well as students who have not picked up a brush since school, at times in the same group! I am very versatile in approach, have taught all ages and work with every imaginable media.
By getting students involved in their own work as quickly as possible rather than doing a too long demonstration and by going round giving individual tuition and encouragement I manage to stimulate and maintain interest and succeed in bringing out the best in each student whatever their level of skill.
I have been employed by various Art groups and organisations to run workshops on Printing, Pop Poster Portraits, Oriental Banners, Multi Media Still Life Painting and Silk Scarf Hangings.
Currently I organise weekly Art classes that have a focus each term and overall give a well rounded Art school experience using various techniques with different media, Art history, portraits and working from the environment
In 2013 I will again be an Associate Tutor on three residential courses at Flatford Mill Study centre. You can stay in the buildings that feature in many of Constables most famous paintings set in countryside that remains unchanged and unspoilt and do a residential art course. Any queries are welcome but for booking please contact the Field Studies Council at Flatford Mill
- Future Tuition:
- MONDAY MORNING
- Abstract Art
- Improve Your Oil Painting
Biography
I am inspired by the great outdoors, by atmospheric light over huge vistas and the repeating patterns of things seen in detail. My work is based on recognisable natural forms which usually have an autobiographical significance and celebrate a feeling, a time or a place.
Something beautiful catches my imagination as the beginning of an image. Frost edged leaves for instance or the accidental ripple on a thawing pond, or birds wheeling around in flight. Recently I started a series of drawings and paintings, from some of my photographs taken of spirals and patterns formed in frozen puddles on the track where I live.
Messy charcoal, graphite sticks and sloppy watercolours are the mediums I enjoy working with at the moment. Layers of marks are applied, rubbed and reworked until the desired effect is achieved. I adore the drama of black and white as well as moody and magnificent colour.
