Biography

I was born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, in 1969 and even as a child, drawing and painting held a special interest for me. I was ‘horse obsessed' from an early age, unfortunately I was also very allergic to horse hair. This enforced absence from my objects of passion only fuelled my interest further; I collected model horses, drew them, read about them, imagined having my own real horse, ad infinitum!
Finally, as my allergies lessened, I became the proud owner of a scruffy grey pony, whom I adored. Later in my teenage years I acquired a thoroughbred mare and later bred my first foal, a beautiful filly which I named Iszara. ‘Izzy' is now seventeen and still makes a superb artists model.
After senior school I completed a four year degree course in Fine Art at Newcastle University, specialising in the discipline of painting and studying the human form.
I graduated in 1992 and was one of 9 UK competition finalists to have my work exhibited in New York.
After University I concentrated on producing equestrian portraits and scenes as a professional artist, also painting works on different subjects for myself.
Now in 2010, I teach art part time, which I love doing, sharing those tips and trade secrets! I produce between 20 and 40 equestrian commissions a year, also enjoying painting and exhibiting figurative works and abstract landscapes with acrylic being my favourite medium.
