Tuition

A mature and capable artist, enjoying the ability to combine excellent design skills with the diverse practicalities of painting. A qualified teacher, assessor and verifier, with speaking and demonstrating qualifications, adept in communicating at any level and functioning equally well in a team or with individual initiative. Caring passionately for the concept of lifelong learning and relishing the challenge of artistic achievement and success for others. I have enjoyed bringing the SAA Guidelines to Art to local care homes and introducing it's benefits to a national charity PHAB.

I am also teaching workshops and providing demonstrations for experimental watercolours 'Watercolour Wizardry', Printmaking on the Kitchen Table and From Sketchbook to Painting

Biography

Cherry, an experimental artist, moved from Hertfordshire to Devon in 1999 and, after a 20 year gap, was inspired to paint again by Devon's amazing light, the coast and countryside. With firm grounding in oils and ceramics, the foray into the world of watercolour proved to be life-changing. Since retiring from a career in education her personal aspirations are almost entirely absorbed with creating art again. A resolute belief in understanding core principles and elements of design influences her depiction of life visions with the often exigent but wonderfully exciting results that watercolour brings. Pastels are another favoured media ideally suited to animal paintings and 'Pet Pawtrait' commissions which are especially rewarding. Returning to oils and acrylics has opened more opportunties to experiment.

Whether it is the intensity of iridescent light on water or the power of a wave crashing on to rocks, the sensation of textures that demand touch, a shaft of light breaking through clouds or the wildness of our moors enveloped in dramatic climatic conditions, the dynamic but unpredictable nature of water-media gives me the spontaneity to capture the fleeting, atmospheric moments in time that just take your breath away.
I am constantly tempted by experimentation and love to mix media and techniques to create textural effects or encapsulate an explosion of emotion or memory. Watching paint dry is often thought to be boring ? well I don't! Watching colour and texture mix and granulate on fresh white paper is the most irresistible fusion and exhilarating experience”.

I am proud to be the current chairman of Devon Art Society and love sharing the experience of creating art with others. It was a a privilege to trial Guidelines to Art for the SAA with elderly groups in Torbay. This has been immensely successful and has brought the residents great pleasure, renewed confidence and self-esteem.

I am also demonstrating for art societies and leading workshops in the Torbay area of Devon

Exhibitions

I have been exhibiting successfully for several years and more are planned. I have had work accepted for Art Liberating Lives at the Mall Galleries, London, Torbay Hospital Gallery and Harbour House, Kingsbridge. Also Devon Art Society, Torbay Guild of Artists, Totnes and Teignmouth Art Society and at Chelston Gallery, Torquay, Birdwood House, Totnes in February 2011. I exhibited with a group of artists at Harbour House, Kingsbridge in 2011 and 2012. Also at TAAG, Northumberland Square, Teignmouth in 2011 and 2912. I was really proud that I have had one of my entries to the South West Academy of Fine Art accepted for the last two exhibitions. I will be part of a group of 3 artists exhibiting again in 2013 at Harbour House, Kingsbridge www.harbourhouse.org.uk and at TAAG, Teignmout. I will be exhibition in Devon Art Society, Torbay Guild of Artists, Totnes Art Society and Teignmouth Art Society as well as the Rotary Club of Ashburton and Buckfast. I was thrilled to have achieved an ambition to be part of Devon Open Studios in 2010 and hope to in the future. I now have a studio in my garden which will provide more opportunities.
