Tuition
I am available to groups and societies for workshops. Themes of my workshops are: Creating texture in watercolour. My demonstrations are hands-on demonstrations - I show how to create various textures and then let people have a go themselves.
Biography
Celia is a mostly self taught artist inspired by the colours and textures of the landscape around her. She paints in a loose style mainly using watercolour and acrylic ink because of the wonderful choice of vibrant colours, but also experiments with other media to get various texture effects. She says watercolour is such an exciting media because you never know how it will turn out.
She loves the rugged wildness of Dartmoor, especially in the autumn and winter when it is takes on hues of russet and gold with hints of bronze and purple. At every opportunity she goes to the moor or surrounding countryside with minimal painting equipment making quick sketches of the scenes around her, looking for the many varied colours in what at first seems very ordinary. According to Celia, it is amazing what colours you can find even when so-called grey clouds fill the sky.
She also enjoys painting the mountainous landscape, red and ochre earth colours and vivid flowers of the Mani in southern Greece. As on Dartmoor, she spends a lot of time in the landscape, walking and sketching through the olive groves and along the old mule tracks to the mountain villages.
In fact, Celia has her sketching equipment with her all the time: terrified atop the London Eye, wondering the streets of Paris, struggling up a Bulgarian mountain, relaxing in a Greek harbourside taverna, waiting for trains, planes and buses, and of course when she is walking nearer to home.
Back at home Celia use these sketches to create paintings full of colour and memories of the places she has been. She also enjoys sharing her love of painting at activities sessions with the residents of retirement homes.
Celia began exhibiting and selling in 2005. Original paintings and reproductions of her work are for sale in a range of cards and prints at local venues and art fairs. Her paintings have been bought by people in this area and further afield, as far as New York, Uganda and Australia.
She also accepts commissions.
