Biography

Carole Bury

Carole Bury is a professional Artist working with Drawings and Paper Textiles.
Carole studied at Cheltenham College of Art (1977-78) and Manchester Polytechnic (1978- 1981) studying Fine Art Embroidery.
On moving to London in 1981, she was quickly involved with Fibre Art and the 62 Group of Textile Artists; this was a supportive membership that was enjoyed for several years.
Carole was invited by the British Crafts Centre to be part of a Paper Exhibition, which sealed her long lasting passion with paper.
She was recognized with her first one woman show in 1985 at the Anatol Orient Gallery, opening on the eve of her leaving for Papua New Guinea for 3 years.
With her husband, she lived and worked at the National Arts School in Port Moresby. It was at this time that her interest in geology, fossils, maps and anthropology began to be explored and linked to her drawings and textile work. With the birth of her first daughter in Papua New Guinea, the place and its people will always hold a piece of her heart and influence her way of thinking.
Over the years these fossil and rock themes have become more intense with an inner energy and meditative quality.
Carole returned to Gloucestershire in 2002 and now lives and works in a small Cotswold Village where her surroundings of woodlands and open vistas inspire her. Her drawings are more expansive and contain inner dialogues finding solutions that are transposed to the Paper Textiles.
