As well teaching art for Central Sussex College (mostly watercolours) I teach private courses (for up to 3 peopl at a time) at a rate of £25 an hour (the cost can be shared). I can teach oils, watercolours, drawing, persepctive, colour mixing, pastels, acrylics or almost any other art related medium or skill you need. My success, according to my students, is due to the fact I demonstrate what I teach and this visual aid gives total beginners or experts alkike the confidence to paint or draw. I teach in various local venues to my home in Forest Row, East Sussex as well as at my house for small groups. Contact me to see if I can help you. Biography
Gill Bustamante - Artist and Art Tutor
Hello - I am a professional artist and art tutor specialising in painting ethereal horses and animals in oil on large canvases. I also produce watercolours, prints, portraits and murals when commissioned. My art is beautiful and unashamedly pretty. I am not'young','emerging' or ?shockingly innovative' and am therefore ignored by the trendier art galleries. This does not worry me too much, however, as my work tends to sell wherever it gets seen.
Inspired to be an artist by Rolf Harris in the late 60's (when I was about 5) I taught myself to draw and paint by copying animals and horses out of books on an almost daily basis.
In 1979 I did a foundation course at Chelsea and then a degree course at Brighton where I graduated in 1983 with a fine art degree in sculpture. I had fun and appreciated the opportunity but at that time the emphasis was on 'conceptual art' rather than art produced for it's aesthetic value and so I became, once again, my own art tutor as I am really only interested in producing art that makes people feel better!
After graduating, I hired a studio space on Brighton seafront where I began producing fibre glass sculptures as commissioned by an architect who designed interiors for clubs and hotels. I was even commissioned by the Dean of the college to make two life size sculptures of horses.
On moving to East Grinstead in the 80's, I began painting for an art agent that specialised in animal, people and bespoke portraits and soon became skilled at painting dogs and horses in the classical style. I also took on mural painting commissions and wrote and illustrated a few children's books. I have painted murals in children's bedrooms, bathrooms, a gypsy caravan and even in a stud farm stable. I always took on these projects with the attitude that if I didn't know how to paint something, I'd find out by doing it - which along with liberal use of libraries and Google has served me well!
In the late 90's I began teaching for adult education centres in the area as well as a few private teaching courses. I sell my paintings through galleries, restaurants, theatres, exhibitions and on-line.
Whether I ever become rich from art remains to be seen but regardless of this, I love to paint. I love getting blobs of it in my ears, on my clothes and on the floor. I love smelling of turpentine and wearing jeans that are held together with dried paint and I love knowing how to hold a brush and being able to use it!
