After a long career as a Modern Linguist and College Lecturer with mountaineering in the UK and the European Alps consuming most of my spare time, I studied Art at Stroud College in Gloucestershire, gaining the Access to Art & Design Certificate in 2004. I am a member of the Gloucestershire Society of Artists and show my work regularly in local exhibitions. Recent work can be seen at the Painswick Centre Studios in Gloucestershire. My recent autobiography, "All But One - One Woman's Quest to Climb the 52 Highest Mountains in the Alps", is available at the Painswick Centre Studios, as well as from the Alpine Club, London, many bookshops and outdoor gear shops, as well as from Amazon. The book is illustrated with many quality photographs as well as a number of my own pen and ink drawings.
At the present time I am working towards an exhibition of paintings and drawings to complement "All But One". Work in progress can be seen at the Painswick Centre Studios. In the December 2012 edition of the "Painswick Beacon" newsletter, Carol Maxwell wrote about my current artwork:
"Barbara can be found working in one of the spaces in the Art Studios at the Painswick Centre. Her work, mostly of mountainous areas, reflects her passion and her paintings are strongly impressionistic in that they portray her feelings and views of the scenes she so loves. They are very evocative. "
