I began teaching in Adult Community Education almost twenty years ago. I was an experienced designer and took an Adult & Further Education Teaching Certificate. I taught drawing, calligraphy and watercolour painting for Derbyshire County and City Councils, the Workers Educational Association and Scargill Walk Centre, in addition to my own classes.
Since moving to Skye I've taught for Portree Learning Centre/Skye & Wester Ross College, now part of West Highland College/University of the Highlands and Islands and in 2012 began running my own classes.
I teach weekly evening and daytime classes in drawing, watercolour and calligraphy, in addition to offering half day and one day workshops, including short notice sessions for holidaymakers, at various venues around Skye & Lochalsh.
My autumn/winter programme will be available in September, please contact me for details or check out this page later.
I studied for a BA in Graphic Design and worked as a Graphic Designer for twelve years before moving into Adult Community Education. I taught drawing, calligraphy and watercolour for Derbyshire County and City Councils, the Workers Educational Association and Scargill Walk Centre, in addition to my own classes, for another eight years before moving to the highlands in 2004. While living in Derbyshire the local landscape formed the basis of most of my work, but Scottish scenes, from my annual holidays, were also an important part of my painting. Since moving to Skye, the Highland Cattle that roam the hills near my home have featured in my work, as have the cats we adopted here and the flowers from my garden. I also paint the local landscape, enjoying the early morning and late evening light as well as 'the weather'. I've taught occasional classes for Skye & Wester Ross College, which is now part of West Highland College/University of the Highlands and Islands and run my own classes around the area.
