I like to do courses and holidays that make interesting combinations and contrasts - sweet and sour, light and dark. And in unusual settings. Like the next course which combines watching birds and sketching or paintings them. For someone who wants to focus on watching birds - there's space for that, and a highly knowledgeable bird expert right there to help make sure you see and understand the birds that are in the area. And for the person who wants to focus on drawing and/or painting birds, or paint the kind of environment in which birds are thriving, then Noel Garner will guide you through the principles over the weekend. And all this in a lovely setting and based in the oldest pub in England.
That's an example.

Noel began painting in earnest in 1980, and for the first ten years painted in watercolour to the exclusion of all other mediums. Since then he has become more eclectic - focusing on plein air oil painting, pastels, oil pastels, oil bars and pencil whilst keeping up with watercolours. He has exhibited in many galleries in the UK, and most recently was chosen as sole exhibitor at the opening of Grant Thornton's new regional offices in Cambridge. Noel has written for Leisure Painter magazine on the subject of "painting watercolours in a hurry" and two years ago was invited to teach painting at the National Gallery in Kabul, Afghanistan, by the Minister of Arts and Culture. His most recent commissioned work is for Leica cameras UK.
As a full-time artist, Noel devotes considerable time to maintaining and extending the scope of his well-received video art-tutorial website: www.cambridgeartacademy.com
Noel Garner is currently exhibiting until 28th May 2012 recent paintings at "Frameworks" in Mill Road, Cambridge - mostly intimate landscapes in oils. Since Noel is committed to painting and sketching outdoors,a selection of his field notebooks is also on view. A mixture of framed and unframed paintings are available for purchase.
Several of Noel's painting are also available at "The Old FireEngine House Gallery" in Ely, Cambridgeshire.
