- Future Tuition:
I have always sketched and painted and combined my love of art and art history with a career in the NHS. On moving to Eastbourne in the 1980's I attended Eastbourne College of Art as a mature student, experimenting with various painting media. Watercolour has become my medium of choice over the years but I still enjoy trying out other approaches.
I work naturalistically, prefering where possible to paint directly from my subject of landscape, flowers or still-life. Watercolour, when it works well, captures for me the changing effects of light and form in a satisfying way, allowing the white paper to be part of the process and adding transluscence to the subject. I have also revisited oils and enjoy the more tactile effects of paint on paper or canvas and recently experimented again with acrylics and mixed media.
I have lived in this area for many years, attending Sussex Downs College, first as a student, then tutoring watercolours there for eighteen years. I now work from my studio in Alfriston where I hold some workshops for small groups, and run workshops and demonstrations to Art Clubs.
I exhibit widely locally each year in group exhibitons and have had work exhibited in the Mall gallery London, The Hop Gallery Lewes, Penns Gallery, Eastbourne, and The Crypt Gallery Lewes.
