Biography
It began casually enough. A few pictures here and there. Then it started to take more of a hold,I started to spend secret lunchtimes and free periods at school preparing for A level art. I wanted to go to art school but was persuaded that architecture would be a more fitting career. But I kept on painting and looking at paintings and , forty years on ,I still cannot seem to kick the habit or stop others from taking it up.

Now I have a lot more time to devote to painting and running workshops and classes. I am getting the hang of it - the passion is as strong and a lifetime of the experiences of looking, trying and creating is making sense. The Australian artist Arthur Boyd modestly spoke of "slops from the barrel" and I am starting to understand what he meant - each new piece of art is the result of the past and my next picture is always more important to me than the last.

I use whatever media is at hand to develop what is on my mind. So I love to experiment and above all colour is the driving force. I still cannot lose that tactile, childish, joy in mixing it and slapping it on.

Subject matter is diverse but it usually comes back to nature - our intervention with nature and the wonderful visual stories it unlocks.

Teachings
I am a qualified teacher (B Ed) and a Professional Associate of SAA and have wide experience teaching all ages. Tuition is relaxed, amusing and supportive so that each student,of whatever ability,is able to develop at their own pace.

My latest workshop at the Russell-Coates was vey popular and over-subscribed.

I am running classes in Poole and Bournemouth Dorset with sessions to suit both local people and visitors.
With the theme of "Exciting Watercolours and lots more" each student can enjoy experimenting in the medium, work with others and get real satisfaction from their progress.
