I started out as a secondary teacher of French and, building upon a lifelong interest in art, took up a serious study of watercolour around 1990, specialising in flower painting. I initially painted with well known and respected artist Sue Sareen. Encouraged by positive feedback, including having work commissioned for greetings cards (Camden Graphics) and mug wraps (Rose of England) and having been offered full membership of the Society of Floral Painters, I started painting full time in 2004.
My first love is flower painting but when teaching, I cover many different subjects. I now teach and run watercolour workshops, write articles for Leisure painter and was commissioned by Search Press to write a tips and techniques book. This first book was published by Search Press in November 2009. Entitled Flowers in the Landscape by Ann Mortimer, it is part of the popular the Watercolour Tips and Techniques series.
I now design greetings cards for the Great British Card Company and Medici cards. Many of the designs are to be seen in major garden centre chains and W H Smith. Woodmansterne have also used two of my designs in their greeting card collection.
My second book Ready to Paint Orchids in Watercolour was published in December 2012. Both books are available at www.amazon.co.uk
I exhibit regularly with the Society of Floral Painters. The Society hold annual exhibitions at various venues in the South of England.
My work can be viewed at my studio in Nottingham. To make an appointment please contact me. Details on my website www.annmortimerart.com
I exhibit at Patchings Art and Design Festival annually in June.
I've successfully exhibited in the Patchings Open Exhibition in 1997, 1998,2002 and have taken part in many local art exhibitions.
