Paint with Feeling... the Only Way to Paint!
Painting is a way to release individual creativity. The paint, the paper and brushes are all tools. The feeling in a painting comes from within the artist and it is this feeling that sets work apart, making it individual personal and interesting. My aim is to help painters craft truly personal paintings by connecting with their own emotions
Individual tuition is available on weekdays throughout the year at my Open Studio in Surrey.
I structure the one to one tuition for the painter concentrating on their individual goal and needs. One session can be beneficial to some but typically a personal course has about six sessions and each session lasts about 2 hours.
The aim, as always, is to help get you painting paintings that are truly yours. Paintings that are your idea with your feeling in them.
Location: My studio in Chobham Surrey
Price £25 per hour

Biography
I discovered painting over twenty years ago when I attended a watercolour class with some friends, it led to a change of direction that I have never regretted. Now, painting is my passion, it is what I do and who I am. I am on a journey of self-discovery and my inspiration comes from within and my work is driven by my life’s experiences. Such as…
Flying. As a pilot the unlimited emptiness of the sky with its ever changing moods fascinates me. As I look down I wonder at man’s insignificance in his landscape and gaze at places he has changed and not yet touched. I love the sense of vast open space and the feeling of quiet calmness. I express this feeling in abstract landscapes or by enclosing space within unexpected structures, this surely comes from the time I have spent in hangers and on airfields!
Escaping from stress. I ran a demanding business for some years and learnt to value the time I could spend alone. Now it is wonderful for me to recall the moment and to paint it. This love of solitude is probably a theme in all my work. It appears in abstract forms of quiet corners that we can find in offices, airports and anywhere that is busy. And no wonder I love the desert, I visit Arizona regularly to paint the amazing feeling there.
Travel and foreign places. Since my early childhood in Japan I have always travelled. This probably accounts for my love of all things different and my dislike of conformity. Individuality is my keyword in life and in painting.
My journey of self-discovery has me exploring my deepest passions and expressing them in paint. How do I paint? I will use anything to get the feeling I want, if I don’t have it I will find it. The feelings that colour creates intrigues me, the power of shapes amazes me. I experiment with it all treating every painting as an experiment. When it works it’s wonderful, when it doesn’t – oh so what!
When I am not painting I am likely to be walking my dog over the common where I am probably thinking about painting. Or I may be trying to play golf with my friends and looking forward to a beer with lunch after the game.

Surrey Art Show New and Old Paintings
Open Studio Art Show Sat. 25th -Mon.27th. May. Chobham Surrey
At this Surrey art show in an artist's open studio you can compare new work with the old to see the changes and to ask why? An older piece is no better or worse than a new painting, just different. Okay the technique may have improved some but that is not the point. Artists' paintings change for many reasons, this Surrey art show offers the opportunity to discuss the subject with the artist.
Every painting is an experiment for me and some fail of course. I keep them to remind me of my lessons from time to time. I have never shown them but figure they can be of interest to others.
This Surrey art show has paintings for sale by Alan Brain that are new and old. All paintings are original, you can view landscapes, figures and abstract paintings which are often bold and vibrant in colour.
