Tuition
Derek is a traditional watercolourist who favours landscape, coastal and harbour scenes, but he does have a wider range. He has a studio at home but sadly, due to the closure of "Expectations of Cornwall" that accommodated his gallery, the ‘Derek Preece Gallery’on the harbour front at Mevagissey has had to close.
The Gallery included an area for tuition, workshops, and ongoing courses, suitable for visitors or locals alike, but that is no longer available. It is hoped to find an alternative location in the future. Apologies are extended to customers and students for any inconvenience caused.
Regular 10-week courses on Mondays, at Tresillian near Truro, are more suited to people who live in central Cornwall. The courses usually start in January, May and September and are each limited to a maximum of 12 places.
Derek has total empathy with those who would love to paint but who are nervous or have doubts in their ability. He is an enthusiastic tutor who firmly believes that people should enjoy rather than worry about their watercolours. He enjoys encouraging people to use watercolours and helping them to overcome their fear of making mistakes.
